TLDR

Wanna become an Eclipse keyboard samurai? Buckle up:

  • Ctrl+Alt+Down: Spawn a clone of the current line below.
  • Ctrl+Alt+Up: Spawn a clone of the current line above.
  • Alt+Down: Shift down the entire rogue line.
  • Alt+Up: Shift up the entire misbehaving line. No selection needed. Put your cursor anywhere on the line and strike!

Find all key bindings in General - > Keys.

Quicker line manipulations

Cloning and exterminating

Ctrl-Alt-Up/Down duplicates, but can we delete lines swiftly?

  • Ctrl+D: Thanos snap for your current line, no selection needed. (Avengers not included)

Undo an accidental cloning or extermination:

  • Ctrl+Z: Ctrl Z is your Ctrl BFF.

Jedi-selection skills

When line-editing requires your meditation:

  • Alt-Shift-Up: This command taps into the Force to select the entire line. No lightsaber required.
  • Alt-Shift-Down: You can control the Force selection. Now, that's the way of Jedi.

Workflow like a boss

Eclipse has more secret weapons for you:

  • Ctrl+Shift+V: Paste from the past, whole lines from your clipboard chronicles.
  • Ctrl-C then Ctrl-X: Photograph then move the line, without even highlighting. Smooth!

Beware of the (coding) caveats

System shortcuts: Frenemies?

Remember that the Force can sometimes be used for flipping your screen, instead of lines.

  • In Graphics Properties, chuck these villainous hotkeys, or give them new orders.
  • Otherwise, choose a different weapon if Ctrl-Alt-Down/Up turns to the Dark side.

When the going gets tough

If shortcuts go on strike, you've got a plan B:

  • Sneak in, inspect, and correct in the General->Keys.
  • Sometimes, mouse clicks are your good old droids when keyboard shortcuts go rogue.

Keep an eye on your work

After pulling off your shortcut stunts, the file goes rogue sometimes, called the dirty state:

  • Hotkey mastery includes regular saves: Ctrl+S
  • Commit and push, so that your version controls remember every cloning and extermination you did.
